Food is at once one of the most basic human needs and the source of some of the most profound human experiences. With a focus on the relationship between food and identity, this class examines the old adage: “you are what you eat.” In addition to terms like “authentic,” “terroir,” and “local,” which connect us to some cuisines and disconnect us from others, we’ll consider how “when,” “where,” and “with whom,” we eat shapes our sense of self as well. We’ll also look at the role of advertising and its ability to affirm, and even distort, our sense of what we like, and don’t like, to eat. Join us for a fun and enlightening look at the ways in which food shapes us as individuals and communities! Bon Appétit!
When: Tuesday, Sep 15 @ 7:00-9:00pm
Where: JeannieBird Baking Company, 42 W. Main St., Westminster, MD
Cost: $50 / person (inc. dessert and coffee/tea)
