From McDonalds, Starbucks, and Coca Cola to Mickey Mouse, Star Wars, and the NFL, American pop culture has both fascinated and frightened Europeans for more than a century. This engaging course explores how and why that is…How the French can protest so often against McDonald’s and yet be among the company’s most loyal global customers…How Hollywood films can fill screens across the continent while also inspiring Europeans to develop their own unique film industry…How American football, largely misunderstood by Europeans, is quickly expanding its European footprint…Put another way, we’ll examine the past of the present relationship between the Old World and the New. For anyone who has ever traveled to Europe, or hopes to do so soon, this course will offer fun, and enlightening, insight! See you in class!
