Introducing a new mini-series in the Community Classroom (inspired by your feedback!), which explores history’s “soundtrack.”
Music has helped to shape every major period in human history. While the list of influential melodies is endless, some compositions have enjoyed a longer legacy than others. Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, which premiered in 1824 as the composer was nearly deaf, is without a doubt one of the most significant contributions to modern music. At once a tragic tribute to the composer’s failing condition, a defiant reassertion of human rights in the face of expanding tyranny, and a musical timepiece that captures perfectly the passion of the Romantic era, the Ninth Symphony has been enshrined in UNESCO’s Memory of the World International Register. Join us as we explore the sound, history, and legacy of this iconic piece! See you in class!
