“Preserving What Past?” – A Critical Walk through Gettysburg National Military Park (Apr 11 - Field Trip)

$50.00

Stories and controversies about memorials, monuments, and the preservation of historic sites have become regular features of our news feeds. To help us make sense of all this, this class will examine in-person the past and present of a memorial landscape that has influenced historic preservation efforts across the country and around the world: Gettysburg National Military Park. Join us as we explore a selection of the park’s monuments and markers curated specifically for the Community Classroom. With historical photos, documents, and maps in hand, we’ll consider both the history and meaning of the park’s key sites as well as their influence on each other in space. With spring in the air, we’ll also turn our attention to the environmental experience, and impact, of memorial grounds. Think you’ve seen Gettysburg? Not like this, you haven’t! Join us as the Community Classroom hits the road for its first-ever field trip! See you there!
