Not until the First World War did Americans confront the challenge of establishing and supporting a truly national military destined for service overseas. As we honor Black History Month, this course explores the contributions of African American men and women, both at home and on the battlefield, to the campaign that catapulted the United States into the Great War and onto the world stage. Through photos, music, poems, and stories, we’ll trace African American experiences from the war years through the 1920s and consider if and how such stories have been remembered and forgotten. Join us for an important, and enlightening, evening!
