"Workin' for the Weekend" - A History of Holidays, Vacations, and Saturday Nights (Oct 7 - Dessert and Discourse)
For many of us, holidays and vacations are the most exciting events of the year. We eagerly anticipate our favorite holiday foods and traditions, and we can’t wait for the next summer beach trip or snow-filled winter break. But, where did the idea of a “vacation” come from? And, why do we celebrate the holidays we celebrate? More importantly, what does our anticipation of vacation say about our relationship to work? And, while we’re at it, who made Saturday and Sunday the days many of us rush to get to? In this interactive and enlightening course, we’ll examine answers to these questions as we explore some of the history that shapes our daily lives and calendars. This promises to be an entertaining evening indeed! See you there!
When: Tuesday, Oct 7 @ 7:00-9:00pm
Where: JeannieBird Baking Company, 42 W. Main St., Westminster, MD
Cost: $50 / person (inc. dessert and coffee/tea)
